Book Your First Session
If you've read about how I work, watched some of my videos or simply have a feeling that I might be the right counsellor for you, you don't have to book an Introduction Call first.
You can choose to book your first counselling session directly.
Your first session is a chance for us to meet properly, begin making sense of what's brought you to counselling and start thinking together about what you'd like support with.
I offer counselling in Grimsby and online across the UK, so you can choose whichever feels most comfortable for you.
What This First Session Is For
This is your first full counselling session, so we'll have time to slow down and explore what's going on for you.
You don't need to arrive with a perfectly prepared explanation. You can tell me as much or as little as feels comfortable, and we can begin from wherever feels most important to you.
Together we might explore:
-
what's been difficult for you recently
-
what has brought you to counselling now
-
what you'd like to be different
-
what matters to you and what you'd like to move towards
-
how we might work together
I work in a person-centred way, gently integrating ACT-informed principles and creative, experiential approaches where they feel helpful.
Sometimes that might mean talking things through.
Sometimes it might mean slowing down and noticing something differently.
Sometimes we might use a creative exercise or metaphor to help make sense of something that is difficult to put into words.
There's no expectation that you'll know exactly what you need before you arrive.
We can work that out together.
What Happens Next
At the beginning of our work together, we'll also go through the counselling agreement so that we're both clear about confidentiality, boundaries and how we'll work together.
The first session is also an opportunity for both of us to decide whether ongoing counselling feels appropriate.
If I don't feel that I can offer you the right kind of support, I may recommend that you seek alternative support. Equally, you're completely free to decide that I'm not the right counsellor for you.
Finding the right therapeutic relationship matters.
If we both feel that working together is a good fit, we can arrange your ongoing sessions from there.
