Feeling Anxious, Overwhelmed or Carrying Too Much Alone?
Counselling in Grimsby & Online Across the UK
Maybe you're coping.
You're getting up, going to work, looking after everyone else, doing what needs to be done.
But inside, things feel very different.
Your mind won't switch off.
You overthink everything.
You're exhausted from trying to hold it all together.
Perhaps you're carrying grief, shame, self-doubt, or a feeling that you're somehow not enough.
Or perhaps nothing particularly dramatic has happened at all.
You just don't feel quite like yourself anymore.
If something in you is thinking, "I can't keep doing things this way," you don't have to wait until everything falls apart before reaching out.
I'm Lisa, a person-centred counsellor based in Grimsby, offering face-to-face counselling from my quiet private practice and online counselling across the UK.
I don't think counselling is about fixing you
I don't believe difficult thoughts and feelings are things we simply need to get rid of before we can get on with our lives.
In fact, sometimes the more we fight with what's happening inside us, the more it seems to take over.
Instead, I work collaboratively with you to become curious about what's happening beneath the surface.
To notice the patterns that may have been shaping your life.
To understand yourself with greater compassion.
To recognise that you may have choices, even when life feels incredibly difficult.
And to reconnect with the things that matter to you.
Because pain doesn't have to disappear before you can start moving towards a life that feels meaningful.
What might counselling with me actually look like?
Sometimes we'll sit in the chairs and talk.
Sometimes we'll sit on the floor.
Sometimes I'll get one of my tiny suitcases out.
Or a finger trap.
Or a piece of rope.
The props aren't the therapy.
They're simply another way of helping something make sense.
Because sometimes experiencing something teaches us far more than me explaining it ever could.
I use person-centred counselling alongside Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), drawing on ideas around curiosity, acceptance, self-compassion, presence, values and action.
But I don't see these as things I simply teach you.
They're ways of approaching life that I genuinely try to live myself.
Life is difficult sometimes.
Mine too.
I still experience worry, loss, uncertainty and self-doubt.
The difference isn't that those experiences have disappeared.
It's that I've learned a different way of responding to them.
And that's what I hope you can discover for yourself too.

You might be here because...
-
You're living with anxiety or constant overthinking.
-
You're feeling overwhelmed or emotionally exhausted.
-
You're experiencing low mood or feel disconnected from yourself.
-
You're carrying grief or trying to make sense of a loss.
-
Shame or self-criticism has become a familiar part of how you see yourself.
-
You keep feeling like you're not enough, no matter how much you do.
-
Life has changed, and you're struggling to find your footing.
-
You know something needs to change, but you're not quite sure what.
You don't need to arrive with a neat explanation.
We can be curious about that together.
What I hope you discover
I don't measure meaningful change simply by whether you feel better every week.
Some of the moments that mean the most to me happen when someone sitting with real pain begins to notice something different.
"I can still choose what matters."
Or when someone reconnects with a value they haven't thought about for years.
Or discovers one they never realised was important to them at all.
Those moments matter because therapy isn't about becoming someone different.
It's about reconnecting with yourself and discovering how you want to live, even when life continues to bring difficult things.
You can carry pain and move towards what matters.
You can feel uncertainty and make a choice.
You can have difficult thoughts and not let them decide the direction of your life.
That's the kind of work I love.
If you're wondering whether counselling is right for you
You don't have to know yet.
That's what the Introduction Call is for.
Free Introduction Call
A relaxed 20-minute conversation where you can ask questions, tell me a little about what's brought you to counselling and get a feel for what it's like to talk with me.
I'll explain a little about how I work and answer anything you're wondering about.
There's no pressure to book sessions afterwards.
It's simply a chance for us to meet and see whether my way of working feels like it could be right for you.
No sales pitch. No expectation, Just a conversation.
Already know you'd like to begin?
If you've read about how I work, watched some of my videos or simply have a feeling that I'm the right counsellor for you, you don't have to have an Introduction Call first.
You can book your first 60-minute online or face-to-face counselling session directly.
Sessions
Limited concession spaces available.
I offer evening and weekend appointments, with both online and face-to-face sessions available.
How it works
1. Choose how you'd like to start
If you're unsure, book a free Introduction Call.
If you're ready to begin, you can book your first session directly.
2. Take the next step at your own pace
If we've had an Introduction Call, you don't have to make a decision there and then.
If you've booked your first session directly, we'll use that first session to begin exploring what's brought you to counselling and whether working together feels right for both of us.
3. We begin working together
If we both feel that counselling could be helpful, we'll arrange your ongoing sessions.
Sessions are typically weekly, although we'll talk about what works for you.
There isn't a script.
There isn't a requirement to arrive knowing what you need to talk about.
We start with curiosity.
And we see were it takes us.
A little about me
I'm a First Class Honours graduate in Counselling, a Registered Member of the BACP and an Accredited Registrant with the NCPS.
I've worked across NHS Talking Therapies and community settings, including social prescribing and supporting carers and people experiencing homelessness.
But qualifications only tell you part of the story.
What matters to me is the kind of relationship we create in the room.
I don't sit above you with all the answers.
I'm another human being sitting alongside you, curious about your experience and committed to helping you discover what matters to you and how you want to respond to what life brings.
Because in my therapy room, we're not connected by perfection.
But by our common humanity.
You don't have to wait until everything falls apart
Counselling doesn't have to be the thing you turn to only when life becomes unbearable.
Sometimes reaching out earlier gives you the opportunity to notice what's happening, understand yourself differently and make choices before you feel completely overwhelmed.
And sometimes...
you simply know that something needs to change.
If that's where you are, you're welcome to get in touch.
There's no pressure.
Just a chance to talk.
